Hotel housekeeping checklist for rooms, inspections and minibars

A hotel housekeeping checklist keeps every room to the same standard, whoever cleans it. Below is the cleaning order for a departure room, what the supervisor inspects, and the daily checks for minibars, public areas and linen.

Hey Senior · updated 23 October 2026

Room cleaning order

  • Knock, announce, and note the room's status before entering
  • Open curtains and windows; switch on all lights to check bulbs
  • Strip the bed and remove used linen and towels
  • Remove rubbish and used amenities
  • Clean the bathroom (below) before the room, so dust does not settle on a clean room
  • Make the bed with fresh linen
  • Dust top to bottom; clean mirrors and glass
  • Restock amenities, stationery and tea tray
  • Vacuum, last, from the far corner to the door
  • Check the room once more, then mark it clean

Bathroom

  • Toilet, basin, shower and tiles cleaned and dried
  • Drains clear; no hair or water marks
  • Fresh towels and bath mat; amenities restocked
  • Floor mopped last

Supervisor's inspection

A supervisor checks every room before it is sold again. Walk the room as the guest will: door, smell, bed, bathroom, amenities, AC, TV and lights. Anything broken goes to engineering at once, with the room marked out of order until it is fixed.

  • Bed made tight, linen spotless
  • No hair, dust or water marks in the bathroom
  • All amenities and minibar items present
  • AC, TV, lights and safe working
  • Room status updated so the front desk can sell it

Minibar check

  • Count every item against the minibar's par
  • Charge what is missing to the room, before the guest checks out
  • Refill to par from the housekeeping store
  • Check use-by dates and remove anything close to them

Public areas and linen

  • Lobby, lifts, corridors and public washrooms on a round, every two hours
  • Linen counted out to the laundry and back; torn linen recorded
  • Uniforms issued and returned against a list
  • Lost and found entered in a register the moment it is found

How Senior does it

In Hey Senior, room tiles show every room's status by floor, and a supervisor gives a whole floor to an attendant in one tap. Room checks are rounds with photos. A minibar check charges what is missing to the room, sends the bill to the front desk on shift and the refill to the attendant, and takes the stock from the housekeeping store when it is refilled.
